The case has rocked the city of Kaduna. Two sisters, Rebecca Simon and Tina Simon, appeared before the Kaduna Magistrates Court to answer to a charge of violently assaulting a local trader. The incident took place at Ungwan Yelwa Television, causing a stir in the community.
The charges against the two accused are serious. It is alleged that they went to the complainant’s shop and asked for a loaf of bread worth N1,200. After giving the trader N1,500, she explained that she had no change and asked them to help her find some change. This simple business transaction turned sour and an argument broke out. The two sisters then violently assaulted the complainant, inflicting serious injuries on her. This inexcusable behaviour led to the victim being hospitalized.
The gravity of the charges is a severe blow to the reputation of the two sisters involved. By pleading not guilty, they face a sentence of up to seven years in prison if convicted as charged. Justice must be delivered fairly and impartially to ensure that the victim gets justice for the harm she suffered.
Justice Ibrahim Emmanuel granted bail of N100,000 to each of the accused, with an additional bail of equal value for each sister. This judgment underscores the importance of ensuring that the accused are held accountable before the courts.
The incident highlights the need for peaceful resolution of disputes and respectful behaviour towards local traders. Violence cannot be tolerated in a civilised society and the perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions. Hopefully, this case will serve as a lesson and encourage individuals to resolve disputes peacefully and respectfully.
