The fight against violence against women in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a long-term struggle that has attracted national and international attention. Voices have been raised across the African continent to denounce the abuses and injustices suffered by Congolese women within their own country.

At a high-level consultative meeting of African traditional and religious leaders in Addis Ababa, the Congolese delegation took the floor to condemn acts of violence against women and girls in the DRC. Chantal Yelu Mulop, coordinator of the Head of State’s specialized service for youth and the fight against violence against women, stressed that this violence is often perpetrated by negative forces manipulated by neighboring countries.

The mobilization of the Congolese government, led by President Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, is praised for its action in promoting positive masculinity throughout the country. This strategy aims to change mentalities and raise awareness among the population about the importance of respecting the rights of women and girls.

This initiative is part of the African Union’s commitments to end violence against women and girls. The DRC, in collaboration with UN Women, played a leading role in organizing this meeting, demonstrating its commitment to combating gender-based violence.

At the same time, concrete actions are being implemented on the ground to support victims of violence, help them rebuild their lives and regain their dignity. Reception and support structures are being set up, in collaboration with local associations, to offer psychological and legal assistance to women in distress.

The fight against violence against women in the DRC is a constant struggle that requires collective mobilization and continuous awareness-raising among the population. It is essential that everyone becomes aware of the magnitude of the problem and commits to promoting gender equality and respect for women’s rights, for a more just and equal future for all.
