In a context where health is becoming a crucial issue, Ondo State, Nigeria stands out for its continued commitment to improving the health system. While unfounded allegations are circulating, claiming the collapse of this vital sector, the reality is quite different. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Strategic Communication, Comrade Allen Sowore, recently refuted these misleading claims coming from the opposition, highlighting instead the significant progress made in the field of public health.
There is no denying the exemplary dedication and remarkable expertise of health professionals in Ondo State. Their commitment to ensuring an effective response to various health emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Lassa fever, cholera and smallpox, deserves unquestionable recognition and support. Beyond sterile political speeches, it is essential to recognize the hard work of doctors, pharmacists, laboratory technicians and other key players in the health system.
Sowore also highlighted the tangible strides made in the health sector in Ondo State. Initiatives such as the construction of new medical and surgical wards at the Mother and Child Hospital in Akure, the establishment of a new oxygen plant at the State Specialist Hospital in Okitipupa, as well as the establishment of the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission, are testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to public health.
The success of the “Abiyamo Maternal and Child Health Insurance Scheme”, which has benefited over 46,741 residents, as well as the “Orange Health Insurance Scheme” (ORANGE HIS), covering over 101,017 civil servants and their dependants, demonstrate the tangible impact of these initiatives on the lives of the people of the state. Furthermore, the recent approval of the redevelopment of primary health care facilities in all 203 wards of the state suggests significant improvement in basic health infrastructure and services.
Despite unfounded criticism from the opposition, Governor Aiyedatiwa remains committed to strengthening health infrastructure and improving medical service delivery. His commitment to the well-being of Ondo State residents is unquestionable, and the results achieved are evidence of strong political will and an inclusive vision for public health.
Ultimately, rather than being misled by partisan statements and unfounded accusations, it is essential to acknowledge the significant progress made in the health sector in Ondo State. Valuing the hard work of health professionals and the continued support provided by the authorities are the pillars of a robust and resilient health system, ready to face future challenges with determination and efficiency.
