The crucial importance of respecting barrier measures against the Marburg virus: exclusive interview with the Minister of Health

At a time when the world is once again facing a new health threat, it is crucial to recall the importance of respecting barrier measures to combat the spread of the Marburg virus. The recent outbreak of the virus in Rwanda has raised alarm among the population of Bukavu and South Kivu, a situation that requires increased vigilance and a strengthening of prevention measures.

In an exclusive interview with Fatshimetrie, Théophile Walulika, Minister of Health, stressed the need for the authorities to strengthen surveillance at the country’s entry and exit points. He compared the Marburg virus to the Ebola virus, highlighting the ability of health professionals to establish an accurate diagnosis through appropriate examinations.

Barrier measures, such as regularly disinfecting hands and avoiding direct contact, are simple but essential actions to protect oneself. Although the Marburg virus has not yet been reported in the region, the proximity of Rwanda where it has already claimed victims should encourage caution and prevention.

The Minister stressed the importance of vigilance to avoid a possible spread of the virus in South Kivu, a province already facing several epidemics. This is evidenced by the presence of the Mpox virus, which is rampant among the Bukavian population. Faced with this situation, it is essential to be attentive to symptoms such as fever, severe headaches, muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhea, and to avoid any contact with people showing these signs.

In conclusion, prevention and awareness play a crucial role in the fight against the spread of viral diseases such as Marburg. It is our duty as citizens to respect barrier measures, remain vigilant and take care of our health and that of those around us. Let us remain united in this difficult period and adopt responsible behaviors for our collective well-being.
