The case that rocked Abigi community on September 29, 2024 has left residents in shock. The five individuals arrested by the authorities, Saheed Mureni, Afeez Mureni, Saheed Taidi, Thompson Samuel and Ogoji Olorunwa, are at the centre of a tragic case that claimed the life of an innocent man.
According to information shared by the Ogun Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the horrific incident unfolded when the suspects attacked their victim with a bamboo stick before dumping her body into a lagoon in the area. The exact motives behind the attack are still unclear, but it is believed that the attackers acted impulsively in the face of a tense situation.
The tragedy began when the victim and her two sons went to their fish trap, also called Iki, for a fishing trip. There, they discovered that their trap was being repeatedly robbed by the suspects. A confrontation then broke out, leading to a brutal attack on the father of the family, who unfortunately lost his life during this violent altercation.
The police operation that led to the arrest of the suspects was launched after the victim’s family members reported the incident. The authorities managed to track down and apprehend the culprits, who will now have to answer for their actions in court.
