The crucial importance of archives management at the Court of Auditors of the DRC

Fatshimetrie, a historic milestone was recently reached in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, as thirteen archivists of the Court of Auditors took the oath during a solemn ceremony. This milestone event was marked by the intervention of Professor Aime Kasongo Made, Director General and Chief Curator of the National Institute of Archives of Congo (Inaco).

During this event, Jimmy Munganga Ngwaka, First President of the Court of Auditors, stressed the crucial importance of the reliability of the information held by archivists, in relation to the entities under their control. He stressed the essential role of the adequate conservation of documents transmitted to the Court of Auditors, emphasizing that these archives are the basis of the control and monitoring work carried out by the institution.

The First President of the Court of Auditors also expressed the hope that the training provided to archivists would enable them to develop and deepen their skills in the field of archival conservation. He spoke of the need for sworn archivists to perform their duties with fidelity and loyalty, while protecting the confidentiality of the information to which they have access.

The seminar, which took place over a period of ten days, focused on key themes such as the conservation, restoration and safeguarding of archives. With the general theme of “Integrated Archives Management”, the training programme covered various topics such as digital archiving, the archival chain and archives management tools.

The swearing-in ceremony of the archivists of the Court of Auditors thus marks an important step in strengthening the institution’s capacities in archives management. It reflects the authorities’ commitment to promoting quality professional practices and ensuring adequate conservation of official documents.

In conclusion, this event demonstrates the importance given to transparency, integrity and rigour within the Court of Auditors of the DRC.
