Inclusion and Sign Language: A Call for the Development of Deaf People in Kindu

Fatshimetrie, October 1, 2024 – Raising awareness of the importance of including autistic people in the fields of education and community communication is a fundamental issue today. In Kindu, the capital of Maniema province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a poignant appeal was launched in this regard by Mr. Crismas Ngenyanga Ngongo, initiator and promoter of the Faradja complex for the deaf.

The occasion of the International Day of the Deaf and Deafness, celebrated on September 30 of each year, was the moment chosen to remind the population of Kindu of the crucial importance of this often marginalized community. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, efforts are being made to promote sign language, an essential communication tool for the deaf.

Sign language, which has become the fifth national language in the DRC, plays a crucial role in the integration of deaf people into society, whether at school, professionally or religiously. The Faradja Complex for the Deaf was thus set up to provide an education adapted to this community, allowing them to flourish and participate fully in life in society.

The call for inclusion launched by Mr. Crismas Ngenyanga Ngongo aims to raise awareness among parents in Kindu and the province of Maniema about the importance of sign language. By enabling deaf people to communicate effectively, this initiative opens doors to greater autonomy and a better quality of life for this community.

It is essential to continue to support and promote the inclusion of autistic people, by highlighting initiatives such as the Faradja Complex for the Deaf that contribute to their development. It is by working together for a more inclusive society that respects diversity that we can build a better future for all.
