Fatshimetrie: Promoting Agriculture and Farm Safety in the Delta

Fatshimetrie, the new initiative to boost agriculture and farm security in Delta

Fatshimetrie is a revolutionary project launched by the Delta State Government to boost agriculture and ensure farm security in the region. The main objective of the initiative is to establish farm hubs in the three senatorial districts of the state to enable farmers to engage in both seasonal and dry season farming.

At a meeting held at the Unity Hall of the Government House in Asaba, the State Secretary, Dr. Kingsley Emu, announced the launch of the innovative project. He stressed the importance of the farm hubs in ensuring stable food supply in the state. The hubs will be manned by farm rangers who are tasked with protecting farmlands and farmers from attacks by nomadic herders.

Dr. Emu also addressed the growing issue of farmland security in the face of the menace of nomadic herders. He stressed that access to farmland requires the consent of the landowner and traditional authorities. He called for collaboration between government, landowners and traditional authorities to prevent the leasing of land to dubious individuals in exchange for money.

Also, the Delta State Government announced the distribution of 12,000 bags of fertilizers to farmers to improve food security in the area. The fertilizer bags, comprising various formulations such as NPK 20:10:10, NPK 27:13:13 and Urea, were delivered from Kaduna State. They will be distributed to strategic groups of farmers specializing in the cultivation of yam, rice, oil palm, banana, sweet potato and cassava to increase their yield.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barr. Val Arenyeka, expressed gratitude to the farmers for their participation in the meeting. He stressed that the impact of this meeting would be felt positively on their agricultural activity.

Fatshimetrie opens new perspectives for agriculture and farm security in Delta. This initiative shows the government’s commitment to agricultural development and the protection of farmers, while strengthening food security in the region.
