The “Kisangani vert” project to the rescue of the environment in the Tshopo province
Since Friday, September 27, a citizen initiative called “Kisangani vert” has been launched in the city of Kisangani, located in the Tshopo province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Led by committed young people grouped within the Sun shine foundation, this ambitious action aims to fight against global warming and promote a healthier environment for future generations.
At the heart of this project, the planting of three thousand royal palm seedlings is a crucial step to green the city of Kisangani and counter the devastating effects of climate change. Supported by the European Union, “Kisangani vert” will be spread over a period of 12 months, during which 30 facilitators will supervise the establishment of these plantations.
The sites chosen for this first phase of the project, namely the avenue lac Mukamba axis IBTP and the salt poison depot, were strategically selected to maximize the positive impact on the local environment. The young initiators of this action are calling for general mobilization, inviting the population to join this citizen movement in favor of the planet.
The interim coordinator of the Sun shine Foundation, Sedar Kalaki, emphasizes the importance of raising awareness in the community so that it fully takes ownership of this essential fight. Indeed, the devastating consequences of global warming are already being felt in the region, with recurring floods and alarming environmental degradation.
Beyond simply planting trees, “Kisangani vert” aspires to transform the city into a model of sustainability that respects nature. Awareness sessions will be organized to raise awareness and educate the population on current environmental issues. This collective momentum aims to build a green Kisangani, a fertile ground for a better life and a healthier future for all.
In conclusion, the “Green Kisangani” project positions itself as a beacon of hope in the fight against climate change. Through the mobilization of young people and the local community, this citizen initiative demonstrates that local actions can have a significant global impact. By planting royal palms, the inhabitants of Kisangani are sowing the seeds of a greener and more sustainable future for their city and for the planet as a whole.
