At the end of September 2024, the political scene in the Tshopo province of the Democratic Republic of Congo once again came to life with the opening of the ordinary session of the Provincial Assembly. This important event was marked by the intervention of Mateus Kanga Londimo, President of the Provincial Assembly, who highlighted the issues and objectives of this session.
In a solemn speech delivered in Kisangani, the provincial capital, Mateus Kanga Londimo announced that this session would not be limited to budgetary issues alone. Indeed, in addition to examining the budget for the coming year, other crucial points will be addressed, such as the hearing of the provincial governor’s action program, the investiture of the provincial government, parliamentary control, as well as the validation of the mandates of the substitutes replacing the deputies appointed within the provincial government.
The objective of this session seems to be to ensure rigorous and transparent financial management, while combating anti-values that compromise the maximization of public revenues. Mateus Kanga Londimo thus called on the provincial government to present a realistic budget and to put in place effective strategies to combat practices harmful to the local economy.
In addition, the issue of security was also raised during this inaugural session. The President of the Provincial Assembly expressed his concern about the collaboration of some politicians with criminal gangs, highlighting the negative impact of this complicity on the population’s trust in the judicial authorities. He also denounced the abuse of power committed by some security forces, stressing the need to guarantee the protection of citizens.
The presence of the provincial governor, Paulin Lendogolia Lebabonga, as well as other political and military authorities at this ceremony testifies to the importance given to this session by local actors.
Ultimately, this session of the Tshopo Provincial Assembly promises to be a key moment for the development and stability of the province, highlighting the challenges to be met and the actions to be undertaken to guarantee a better future for its inhabitants.
