At the heart of the Egyptian tourism sector, a recent study conducted by Hossam Hazaa, a member of the Egyptian Tourism Federation, revealed interesting data on the daily spending of tourists from the Gulf. Indeed, it is established that these visitors spend an average of $300 per day, surpassing American tourists who spend only $200.
The study also shed light on the behavior of Chinese tourists, who spend an average of $120 per day, including the number of nights spent and the cost of accommodation. These figures highlight the importance of tourism in Egypt and the diversity of its visitor profiles.
Despite regional geopolitical tensions, this year’s summer was marked by a record influx of tourists. Indeed, the country recorded nearly seven million visitors in the first six months of 2024, for a total of 70 million nights spent. These figures demonstrate the growing appeal of Egypt as a tourist destination.
Hossam Hazaa stressed that Egypt has all the attractive elements for tourists and that the government is working to strengthen the country’s tourism promotion. Measures are being taken to facilitate domestic and foreign investment in the hotel sector in Egypt, with the support of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the government. A budget of 50 billion Egyptian pounds is allocated for the expansion of the hotel sector to accommodate an expected influx of 30 million tourists by 2028.
In this favorable context, Hossam Hazaa is optimistic about the next tourist season in 2025, predicting that it will exceed 18 million tourists. These encouraging prospects demonstrate the vitality of the Egyptian tourism sector and its growth potential.
In short, Egypt is positioning itself as a must-see tourist destination, offering incomparable cultural and natural wealth. With continued investments and an effective promotion strategy, the country is preparing to welcome an increasing number of visitors from all over the world, making its tourism industry a pillar of its economic development.
