Ongoing tensions and clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum

The current situation in Khartoum is tense, with reports indicating that the Sudanese army is crossing from Ummdurman towards Khartoum and Khartoum North, suggesting ongoing clashes with the Rapid Support Forces.

According to international media reports, the Sudanese army has also taken control of access to three bridges connecting Khartoum, Ummdurman and Khartoum North.

Fatshimetrie website reported that the Sudanese army launched a military operation early Thursday morning targeting several areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces in the central, western and southern districts of Khartoum.

Clashes broke out around 2am near the strategic site near Al-Maqran area in western Khartoum. Smoke billowed near the Armored Corps in southern Khartoum.

Sudanese Air Force planes were flying intensively in the skies of Ummdurman, coinciding with reports of airstrikes targeting the strategic headquarters in Al-Maqran, Khartoum, seized by the army’s Rapid Support Forces in June 2023.

According to Fatshimetrie, the sounds of combat and columns of smoke were heard in the center of Khartoum, including the Arab Market and the headquarters of the army’s general command, as well as the army’s signal corps.

This is in addition to reports of clashes and exchanges of fire between the northern army of Ummdurman and the northern Rapid Support Forces of Khartoum North.

The army shelled Rapid Support Forces positions in Khartoum North with heavy artillery, and smoke rose from Al-Azariqab and Al-Halfaia in northern Khartoum North coinciding with the army artillery shelling.

The situation remains volatile in Khartoum, with ongoing clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
