The Ondo State Government in Nigeria has recently announced significant measures in support of education and health, demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of its citizens. The decision to release a counterpart fund of N3.5 billion for the Universal Basic Education (UBEC) Fund paves the way for the construction and renovation of public schools in the state. The initiative, which is expected to generate over N7 billion, is a testament to the governor’s strong commitment to improving the education sector in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Laolu Akindolire, noted the significance of the decision and commended the governor’s leadership in promoting education. This is a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for the youth.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Executive Council also discussed public health. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Professor Simidele Odimayo, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the prevention of diseases such as Lassa fever, cholera and monkey pox. He encouraged communities to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to safeguard public health. A national health initiative, tagged ‘Project 10 Million’, will soon be launched to screen residents of the state for hypertension and diabetes.
In addition, the government has approved the renovation of primary health care facilities in all 203 wards in the state. This will enhance security, improve equipment and ensure optimal working conditions for medical personnel. Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Environment, Oyeniyi Oseni, expressed the government’s concern for the residents of Aiyetoro in Ilaje Local Government Area who are affected by recurrent marine incursions. These initiatives are a testament to the strong commitment of the Ondo government to improve education, public health and the quality of life of its citizens. By investing in these critical areas, the state is striving to create an environment conducive to the prosperity and well-being of its people.
