Car theft in Kaduna: When trust is betrayed

A recent incident in Kaduna, Nigeria has sparked a furious reaction. Amos, a resident of Mahuta, near Refinery Junction, was charged with theft by the police. Amos, however, pleaded not guilty. According to statements by the prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, the incident took place on September 2, 2018, in the Sabon Tasha area of ​​Kaduna.

Timothy Simon, the alleged victim, had asked Amos to return a car to him after a ride. Instead of returning the vehicle, Amos allegedly decided to steal it and try to sell it in Abuja.

Intrigued by the suspicious behavior of the potential buyer, who had called the number listed in the vehicle’s documents, Timothy Simon alerted the police. Amos was then apprehended in Abuja in possession of the stolen vehicle.

The charges against Amos carry a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, as per Section 217 (7) of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
