The need for enhanced collaboration between the Maniema provincial government and local journalists

Fatshimetrie, September 25, 2024: In a context where information is a fundamental pillar of democracy and transparency, collaboration between the provincial government of Maniema and journalists from the seven territories of the region appears to be an urgent necessity. Indeed, a media collective operating in the province of Maniema recently launched an urgent call for strengthened cooperation between provincial authorities and information professionals working in all the territories of the province.

The objective of this collaboration is clear: to ensure regular and balanced dissemination of all the activities of the provincial executive, in order to guarantee quality and transparent information to all the communities living in the heart of Maniema. The spokesperson for the collective, Kiwaya Kabamba, stressed the crucial importance of including local media journalists in the government communication process, for better representativeness and equitable access to information for all.

One of the main concerns raised by the collective concerns the exclusivity currently enjoyed by journalists from Kindu, the seat of provincial institutions, within the governor’s press and communications department. Indeed, the absence of media representatives from the hinterland territories within this team restricts the diversity and plurality of points of view relayed in the local media sphere.

Thus, the collective calls on Governor Moïse Mussa Kabwankubi to establish an inclusive partnership policy, by signing collaboration agreements with all local media, in order to guarantee equitable dissemination of his decisions and orders throughout the province. This new model of government communication would not only strengthen citizens’ trust in provincial institutions, but also promote a culture of transparency and accountability within public administration.

In short, collaboration between the Maniema provincial government and journalists from the different territories of the region is of paramount importance in building a democratic and enlightened society. By promoting equitable access to information and ensuring transparent dissemination of government activities, this cooperation will contribute to strengthening links between provincial authorities and citizens, in the interests of participatory democracy and responsible governance.
