Sale of Stinger Missiles to Egypt: A Crucial Step for Regional Stability

Fatshimetrie revealed a major news story on Tuesday: the US State Department has given the green light to the potential sale of “Stinger” missiles to Egypt for $740 million. This announcement from the Pentagon highlights that the RTX Corporation will be the main contractor for this possible transaction.

The US State Department spokeswoman had previously announced that the administration of President Joe Biden had informed Congress of its intention to provide the full military aid to Egypt this year, amounting to $1.3 billion. This is the first time since 2020 that Egypt has received the full amount of US aid.

This decision was considered crucial by the State Department to strengthen regional peace and welcome Egypt’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. According to the State Department spokesperson, “This decision is critical to fostering regional peace and recognizing Egypt’s specific and ongoing contributions to U.S. national security priorities. These include completing a ceasefire in Gaza, returning hostages to their homes, increasing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians, and seeking a final resolution to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.”

Last September, the Egyptian-U.S. Strategic Dialogue was held in Cairo, bringing together the foreign ministers of the two countries and a group of Egyptian ministers to discuss joint cooperation in the areas of economy, investment, tourism, and technology.

This announcement marks a new milestone in U.S.-Egypt relations, highlighting the strategic importance of these ties to regional stability.
