The Fonarev delegation in Kananga: towards justice for the victims of Kamwina Nsapu

**The delegation of the National Victims’ Reparation Fund in Kananga: a step towards justice for the victims of Kamwina Nsapu**

In September 2024, a large delegation from the National Victims’ Reparation Fund (Fonarev) stopped off in Kananga, the capital of Kasaï-Central province. Led by provincial coordinator Myrhand Mulumba, this delegation had the honour of meeting with the provincial governor, Josephe-Moïse Kambulu N’konko, to discuss measures to bring justice to the victims of the atrocities committed during the Kamwina Nsapu uprising.

The main announcement of this meeting was Fonarev’s willingness to support approximately 200 victims of these abominable acts, concentrated in the Kazumba territory. To make this commitment a reality, the Fund plans to finance the holding of mobile court hearings within the military court of the former Kasaï-Occidental from September 30 to October 14, 2024 in Kazumba. The objective is clear: to ensure that these victims finally obtain justice and compensation for the suffering endured during the tumultuous period of the Kamwina Nsapu insurrection between 2016 and 2017.

Beyond these judicial hearings, Fonarev is also working to identify all the victims in this specific region of Kasaï-Central. A crucial step that will subsequently allow the compensation of these people thanks to the funds made available by the government of the Republic.

This initiative by the Fonarev delegation in Kananga constitutes a real step forward towards the reparation of the wrongs suffered by the victims of Kamwina Nsapu. By offering financial and moral support to these vulnerable people, the National Victims’ Reparation Fund demonstrates its concrete involvement in the reconstruction of a society wounded by tragic events.

This approach is not only a symbolic gesture, but a true recognition of the need for justice and reconciliation to allow these victims to find a form of peace after years of suffering and injustice. Let us hope that this visit marks the beginning of an era of reparation and healing for the communities affected by the violence in Kamwina Nsapu, and that it serves as an example for other similar initiatives in other regions of the country.
