Aswan Governor Ismail Kamal recently affirmed that there are no cases of cholera in the Abu al-Rish and Daraw regions, dismissing rumors circulating online.
In an interview with Ahmed Moussa’s TV program “Ala Massoulity” (Under My Responsibility), Kamal said that the number of deaths in Aswan, according to the latest report, is five people, who died of diseases unrelated to the spreading intestinal flu.
“The mortality rate in Aswan has not increased during this period, but remains at its normal level. The infections currently present in the hospital are not worrying, and I drank the water in Abu al-Rish in front of the citizens to show its degree of safety,” he added.
Regarding rumors that a chemical plant is dumping substances into one of the Nile water stations, the governor confirmed that “an industrial wastewater treatment plant has been built, and periodic water tests have been carried out at the station. Work is underway to change the sewage system as part of the Dignified Life Initiative.”
“We are planning a big celebration in Aswan to kick off the tourist season on Friday, and we are closely monitoring tourist groups and hotel reservations. No groups have been canceled,” he said, warning against claims by those seeking to spread panic.
The Ministry of Health and Population issued a detailed statement on Saturday on the latest developments in the southernmost governorate of Aswan, following the mysterious spread of infectious diarrhea.
Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar explained that “Patients admitted to the hospital were examined, and the medical services provided to them were followed up.”
He affirmed that after “initial tests on water stations and homes, it was proven that there is no change related to the presence of bacteria or microbiological changes in the water stations.”
These recent developments in Aswan highlight the importance of water and sanitation management in ensuring public health and safety. It is essential that the authorities continue to work on sustainable solutions to prevent the spread of diseases and ensure the prosperity of the region.
