The proliferation of recent events in the field of Congolese justice attests to the urgency of deep reflection and concrete actions to remedy the gaps and dysfunctions observed. The one-on-one meeting between the Minister of Justice, Constant Mutamba Tungunga, and the President of the High Council of the Judiciary (CSM) demonstrates a strong political will to thoroughly reform the country’s judicial system.

The announcement of the next States General of Justice in October is arousing great interest and legitimate expectation on the part of the population. Indeed, recent news has been marked by troubling events such as the attempted escape of prisoners from the central prison of Makala, the reforms underway, the issue of banking judicial revenues, or the conditions of detention of juvenile prisoners. These sensitive issues cannot leave anyone indifferent, because they question the very function of justice and its ability to provide fair justice for all.

The determination displayed by Constant Mutamba and the support of the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, are positive signals that suggest significant progress in the field of Congolese justice. The reforms undertaken, although facing obstacles, demonstrate a strong political will to profoundly transform the judicial system for the good of all citizens.

The challenges of the future States General of Justice are multiple and crucial. It is a question of rethinking the working conditions of magistrates, ensuring distributive and fair justice, guaranteeing equality for all before the law, and improving the prison conditions of detainees for true rehabilitation. Justice cannot be two-speed, it must be the same for all, without distinction of social position or power.

The convening of these States General of Justice is an essential step in the quest for a fairer, more efficient and transparent justice system in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The challenges are numerous, the resistance probably strong, but it is imperative to continue the reforms undertaken to restore confidence in justice and restore its image. Citizens are thirsty for justice, fairness and transparency, and it is through concrete actions and courageous measures that the judicial system will be able to regain its full meaning and its central role in building a more just and equitable society for all.

The next States General of Justice are a historic opportunity for Congo to rethink its judicial system, correct dysfunctions and move towards a justice system that truly serves all. It is not enough to declare, we must act, reform and transform in depth so that justice regains its essential place at the heart of society. Congolese citizens expect concrete answers, rapid actions and effective measures for a better and fairer justice for all. The road is long, but the determination and commitment of the authorities are positive signals that suggest a better tomorrow for Congolese justice.
