Kananga, September 20, 2024
In Kananga, in the heart of Kasai Central in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a memorandum was submitted to the provincial assembly, highlighting the precariousness of the teachers of the 31st Presbyterian Community in Congo (CPC). This investigation, conducted by members of this community, reveals alarming living conditions for these key education players.
According to the protesters’ spokesperson, Augustin Malemba, the situation is critical. The closure of the premises of the coordination of schools in their sector has plunged new teachers as well as unpaid agents into deep precariousness. Indeed, this closure has had direct repercussions on the preparation of the 2024-2025 school year, leaving teachers without guidelines or means to start the year adequately.
The receipt of this memorandum by the rapporteur of the provincial assembly, Anaclet Muyaya, marked the beginning of a collective awareness. Muyaya committed to transmitting this document to the executive of Kasaï Central as soon as possible so that an urgent solution could be found. He stressed the importance of guaranteeing decent working conditions for teachers, emphasizing that the future of the youth of this region depended on their commitment and well-being.
This alarming situation raises crucial questions about the importance of supporting and valuing the teaching profession. Teachers play a vital role in the training of future generations, and it is imperative to provide them with an environment conducive to their professional development. By neglecting the working conditions of teachers, it is the education of children that is put at risk, thus compromising the future of an entire community.
It is time to act and recognize the inestimable value of teachers. They deserve not only financial support, but also respect and recognition for their essential contribution to society. By ensuring decent working conditions for teachers, we are investing in education and therefore in the future of our country. It is our duty to protect and promote the education sector, because it is through education that a better future for all is built.
