The diversity and excellence of women in the South African media sector continues to inspire and arouse admiration. Their journey, achievements and contributions to the media landscape are a wealth of knowledge and experience. It is with this in mind that a webinar not to be missed will be held, highlighting some of the country’s eminent media personalities.

Mmabatho Mongae, a Data Analyst in the Governance Insights & Analyst programme at Good Governance Africa, embodies academic and professional excellence. A PhD candidate in International Relations at the University of Witwatersrand, her research focuses on democracy, governance, African political economy and quantitative social analysis. Her expertise has already been demonstrated through renowned publications such as Routledge and the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa.

As for Precious Maputle, Marketing Coordinator at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Johannesburg, she shines not only in the academic field but also in the world of radio and television. Winner of the prestigious Mail & Guardian Power of Women award, she serves as a non-executive director in several organizations, while brilliantly hosting her television show. Her impact extends well beyond media boundaries, making her a key figure in today’s media scene.

Asafika Mpako, Communications Coordinator for Southern Africa at Afrobarometer, excels in sharing knowledge and raising awareness of political and social issues on an international scale. Her journey has taken her from South Africa to the academic showcases of Washington D.C., Oxford and London, demonstrating her commitment to democracy building and human rights through effective communication.

Shoeshoe Qhu, CEO of the Media and Diversity Development Agency, with over 20 years of media experience, brings a vital perspective on the evolving and diversifying media landscape in South Africa. Her commitment to freedom of expression and training of media professionals make her a leading voice in the sector.

Sibusisiwe Ndlovu, a community development media practitioner, highlights the importance of multimedia platforms in women’s empowerment. Her academic background and international experience place her at the crossroads of contemporary media issues, providing a unique and engaged voice in the media landscape.

Naledi Mphahlele, a recent graduate in Motion Picture Television from AFDA, embodies the new generation of talent in the South African media industry. Her versatile background and commitment to script-editing and representation are testament to her passion for media arts and her desire to change the audiovisual landscape of the country.

Finally, Dr Allegro Dinkwanyane, Founder and CEO of the Orgella Group, a key personality in the media world, brings ethics and social responsibility to the heart of her actions. Her dedication to disadvantaged youth and her commitment to the emancipation of the most vulnerable through the media illustrate the capacity of media professionals to be agents of change and inclusion.
