An unacceptable act of violence has recently taken place. Indeed, the husband of the famous Nollywood actress and member representing the Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency, Prince Henry Okojie, escaped an assassination attempt.
The attack took place at his residence, on the eve of the Edo State government elections. Fortunately, the prompt intervention of the police officers assigned to him helped to counter the aggression and prevent the worst.
Michael Ihaza, his press secretary, confirmed the incident on social media: “ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT? You must have heard about the assassination attempt on the life of the prince this morning? Four men in a Lexus 470 with a Rivers State number plate, entered his compound under the pretext of being police officers and attempted to attack him! Fortunately, they failed, and two of them were arrested by our gallant officers attached to his security. These individuals have already started confessing their actions!
Is it becoming commonplace to attempt to assassinate a politician like Prince Odi Okojie? Let us remember that everything you are doing now, you learned from someone! We know the game better than you!
If you choose to act with brutality, know that we are also masters of these methods! Prince Odi Okojie is untouchable! Do not make this mistake again times!
Our support for him goes beyond politics. We campaigned with all our energy for our candidate, but never at the expense of the lives of others. We ask you to do the same. Promote your candidate by all means, except by making threats or attempting to take the lives of others!
We strongly condemn this evil act and call on all those involved to stop it, as retaliation may be inevitable and dramatic!
Never try it again! Be it against Prince Odi Okojie, Hon. Prince Saturday Iyoha, Hon. Sam Oboh, or any other member/leader of the APC party! Do not allow these actions to happen again, as they may bring about the events predicted by Governor Godwin Obaseki: unrest and catastrophic consequences for our country!
I pray that when the names announced by the suspects are revealed, you will not find yourselves trapped by your own actions, claiming to be victims of a “witch hunt”…
Let us go to vote tomorrow in all serenity, and congratulate the victorious candidate with dignity! We will not tolerate such maneuvers against our political leaders! Let us respect each other and remain within the republican and democratic framework of our nation.”
This event is a brutal reminder of the violence and instability that can reign in the political world. It is essential that all political actors and citizens demonstrate civility and respect towards others, even during election periods. The future of our country depends on how we are able to dialogue and cooperate, despite our differences.
