Kinshasa, September 18, 2024 (Fatshimetrie) – The Democratic Republic of Congo today sees the arrival of a new Director General within the National Fund for Reparations for Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence. Indeed, following a presidential order, Mr. Fata Mapungu Patrick was appointed head of this organization responsible for supporting and assisting victims of these heinous crimes.
This change in the management of Fonarev, established by Law No. 22/65 of December 26, 2022, marks a new step in the fight against sexual violence and crimes against humanity in the DRC. Mr. Fata Mapungu Patrick, former Deputy Coordinator of the Business Climate Unit within the Presidency of the Republic, brings with him his expertise and his desire to contribute to the recovery of victims and the construction of lasting peace in the country.
Fonarev plays a crucial role in Congolese society, identifying victims, providing them with access to justice and providing them with the necessary reparations. Its action aims not only to repair the harm suffered by victims, but also to prevent the recurrence of this unacceptable violence.
This appointment marks a new beginning for Fonarev and reinforces the commitment of the Democratic Republic of Congo to fight impunity and promote human rights. Mr. Fata Mapungu Patrick, with his experience and determination, is called upon to play a key role in implementing the missions of this public institution of a technical, financial and social nature.
