The Lagos City authorities are currently facing a predicament at Onigbongbo Police Barracks, Ikeja. Indeed, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) recently conducted an assessment of the buildings in the area, and the findings are alarming. According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, the discovery of high distress conditions in the buildings led to a drastic decision: the controlled demolition of the affected structures.

Located inside Onigbogbo, Lagos Old Block 3, MOPOL 20 Police Barracks, Ikeja GRA, behind Zone F, the identified building and other surrounding structures must be evacuated immediately. The gravity of the situation has prompted the authorities to put in place a comprehensive action plan that includes a thorough assessment, safe and orderly evacuation, and finally a controlled demolition of the buildings in question.

The decision to proceed with the demolition was taken with the aim of preventing possible serious incidents related to the precarious state of the structures. Under the careful supervision of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the preemptive demolition operation is aimed at ensuring the safety of the residents and avoiding any fatal outcome that could result from inaction.

It is essential that the population remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation on social media. The situation is being addressed by the relevant authorities and appropriate measures are being put in place to manage this crisis in an effective and coordinated manner.

The promptness of LASEMA’s response demonstrates the paramount importance given to public safety and the well-being of the citizens of Lagos. This proactive action highlights the need to maintain high building standards and ensure the safety of urban infrastructure.

In conclusion, the situation at Onigbongbo Police Barracks underscores the importance of vigilance and foresight in the face of risks associated with dilapidated and unsafe buildings. Prevention remains the key to ensuring the safety of all, and it is imperative that the authorities and the population work closely together to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all Lagos residents.
