Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee for Gaza Unites for Peace and Palestinian Recognition

The Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee for Gaza met today in Amman, the capital of Jordan, to coordinate efforts to end the war in Gaza and support recognition of the Palestinian state. This group of ministers, mandated by the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit on Gaza, met to establish an agenda that they intend to present to the international community as a whole.

At a press conference after the meeting, Ayman Safadi, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister, said: “We will go to the UN General Assembly with a clear position and demands, where a number of meetings will focus on efforts to end the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank and the threats against Lebanon, and to send a warning signal to prevent the Israeli government from pushing the situation in the region into the abyss.”

It is time for the international community to take action. There will be a price to pay if Israel continues to pursue policies that violate international law and international humanitarian law, he added.

The meeting also aimed to address the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to all affected areas, and discuss ways to “support the recognition of the Palestinian state, ensure the realization of the rights of the Palestinian people, and promote security and peace in the region and the world” at the upcoming high-level debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In addition, members discussed joint efforts to implement the two-state solution by establishing a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The committee, which includes representatives from Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, Indonesia, Nigeria, Bahrain, as well as the head of the Arab League and the head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, was established in November last year to achieve a ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid to Gaza, and develop an action plan to achieve the two-state solution.
