Fatshimetrie recently highlighted a series of barbaric acts perpetrated against the populations of Ituri, vehemently denounced by national deputy Jospin Mateso. These tragedies include killings, atrocious rapes, and arson attacks that have spread terror in the region. During a poignant press conference in the hemicycle of the Palais du Peuple in Kinshasa, the elected representative of Djugu spoke of a desperate situation and unprecedented violence affecting the inhabitants of Ituri.
The horror story told by deputy Mateso reveals a dark chapter of humanity. Four young girls were kidnapped on a road in Jina, then raped and savagely murdered by CODECO militiamen. Worse still, these criminals set fire to the region’s reference hospital, depriving the population of vital medical care. The inhabitants of Jina were also victims of systematic looting and terror that lasted for hours.
The MP highlighted the cruelty of the attacks, evoking limitless barbarity. These acts of violence also affected the village of Fataki, where ten people lost their lives. This tragedy took place near a military camp, highlighting the vulnerability of the inhabitants in the face of this merciless violence.
Faced with these atrocities, Jospin Mateso urged the Government to take urgent measures to guarantee the security of the populations of Ituri. The province, placed under a state of siege, needs a firm and immediate response to put an end to these inhumane atrocities and preserve the lives and property of citizens.
The situation in Ituri reflects a sad reality that requires collective mobilization. The heinous crimes perpetrated against innocent people cannot go unpunished. It is time to act, to condemn these unspeakable acts and to protect those who are most vulnerable to the murderous madness of a few lawless individuals. The appeal launched by Jospin Mateso resonates like a cry of distress, calling for solidarity, compassion and justice to put an end to this spiral of unsustainable violence.
