The “Fatshimetrie” initiative: When education transforms lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Fatshimetrie: the National Service initiative for the improvement of education in the Democratic Republic of Congo

As part of the “Fatshimetrie” initiative, launched by the National Service in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a major breakthrough took place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Major General Jean-Pierre Kasongo Kabwik, Commander of the National Service, oversaw the delivery of 400 desks to the School Complex and High School located within the Tshathi military camp. This action is part of a vast program aimed at supporting the implementation of free education and improving the study conditions of students in the country.

The desks, made by former criminals turned artisans and nicknamed “Kuluna”, embody the potential for transformation and redemption of individuals. From crime to construction, these benches symbolize a new beginning for those who have chosen to contribute positively to society. This approach also demonstrates the National Service’s commitment to investing in education and supporting Congolese youth.

The National Service Commander stressed that this first distribution of desks was only a step, and that other public schools located in different military camps will also benefit from this donation. The schools in the Kokolo, Lufungola, Ceta and Badiadiadigi camps are also concerned by this initiative, which aims to provide optimal study conditions for students and ease the financial burden on parents.

The purchase of two modern bench-making workshops marks an important turning point in the National Service’s education policy. These workshops will be installed in Kimpese in the Kongo Central province and in Mbandaka in the Equateur province, thus providing employment and economic development opportunities in these regions.

The “Fatshimetrie” initiative is part of the vision of the President of the Republic to guarantee universal access to quality education, while promoting social inclusion and the reintegration of marginalized individuals. This concrete action demonstrates the Congolese government’s desire to invest in the future of its youth and create sustainable development opportunities for all citizens.

In conclusion, “Fatshimetrie” represents an inspiring example of collaboration between the State, civil society and citizens, to build together a better future for the Democratic Republic of Congo. By supporting education and valuing the potential of each individual, this initiative paves the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future for all Congolese.
