First case of Mpox confirmed in Lomami province: a major health alert

“FATSHIMETRY CONFIRMS THE FIRST CASE OF MPOX IN LOMAMI PROVINCE”

The province of Lomami, under the interim governor Célestin Kayembe, was shaken by a most worrying announcement. Indeed, the first case of the dreaded Mpox, more commonly known as monkeypox, was confirmed in the Kabinda health zone, specifically in the Nkumba health area, in the Kampoto II village. This news was revealed during a meeting with the press last Thursday.

In addition to this confirmed case, twenty-four other suspected cases were identified in different health zones of the province. Samples were taken and sent to the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) for in-depth analysis. Among these suspected cases, eight were identified in Kabinda health zone, six in Kamana health zone, and five in Mwene-Ditu health zone. Fortunately, the health zones of Kalambayi, Kalonda East Makota, Ludimbi Lukula and Mulumba have not yet reported any suspected cases to date.

Faced with this alarming situation, the interim governor calls on the population to strictly adopt precautionary measures to stem the spread of this epidemic. He emphasizes the importance of consulting a health center as soon as symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain and the appearance of spots on the body appear.

It is essential that everyone takes their individual responsibilities in the fight against this disease and shows solidarity to protect the community as a whole. Awareness and information are the keys to effectively combating Mpox and avoiding uncontrolled spread.

In these times of health crisis, everyone’s collaboration is essential to prevent the spread of diseases such as monkeypox. Let’s remain vigilant, follow the authorities’ instructions and act together to protect our health and that of our loved ones.”
