Transition and Dedication: Austin Eguavoen, new breath for the Super Eagles of Nigeria

The Nigeria national football team, popularly known as the Super Eagles, is undergoing a transition period with the appointment of Austin Eguavoen as interim coach. In a recent media appearance, Eguavoen expressed his willingness to serve Nigerian football with commitment and dedication.

Eguavoen, who has been serving as the technical director of the national team since 2020, accepted the coaching role out of a sense of duty to the sport and his country. He stressed that he did not seek the position but was approached by the higher authorities of the Nigeria Football Federation. He said it was an honour for him to be able to contribute to Nigerian football, a sport that has brought him fame and recognition.

In his remarks, Eguavoen stressed the importance of commitment from all to achieve the team’s common goals. He reminded the players and coaching staff of the importance of working together in a spirit of collaboration and determination.

As the Super Eagles players gradually gather for training camp, Eguavoen is preparing to lead the team in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda. He will be on the bench for the match against Benin on September 7 and against Rwanda on September 10.

Eguavoen’s appointment as interim coach of the Super Eagles marks a new phase for the Nigeria national team. His wealth of experience as a former player and coach of the national team makes him a valuable asset in guiding the team to success on the international stage.

It is still too early to say whether Eguavoen will retain the position beyond the international break, but one thing is for sure: his commitment to Nigerian football and his desire to contribute to the development of the sport in his country are qualities that do not go unnoticed. As a Super Eagles legend, Eguavoen is ready to take up the challenge and contribute to the future of football in Nigeria.
