The Monkeypox epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo: Vigilance and Prevention in Haut-Katanga

The Monkeypox (Mpox) outbreak continues to raise concerns in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Haut-Katanga remains on alert despite the absence of confirmed cases in the region. The proximity to other provinces affected by this viral disease poses a serious risk to the local population.

The provincial Minister of Health, Joseph Nsambi Bulanda, stressed the importance of remaining vigilant and scrupulously respecting hygiene measures to prevent the spread of Monkeypox. Although Haut-Katanga has not yet reported any confirmed cases, alerts are being analyzed, and a preparedness plan is being finalized in the 27 health zones of the region.

The Democratic Republic of Congo requires a large quantity of vaccines to control the spread of Monkeypox. The Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare, Roger Kamba, stressed the importance of prevention to stem this epidemic and protect the population.
