Fatshimetrie: Education and commitment for a successful school year

The 2024-2025 school year in Kinshasa was marked by an important meeting at Toyokana High School, in the commune of Kasa-vubu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. School heads were invited to this meeting to discuss their crucial role in the proper functioning of the education system in the educational province of Kinshasa-Funa. Jean-Marie Mvunzi Mbemba, director of this province, stressed the importance of the involvement of school heads to ensure a successful school year.

During this meeting, Mr. Mvunzi recalled the five guiding pillars of the vision of the Ministry of Education: social dialogue, strengthening the administration, investment in teacher training, promotion of equity and inclusion, as well as the integration of new information and communication technologies. These fundamental principles will guide the actions taken to ensure the quality of education provided to students in Kinshasa-Funa.

Parents have also been called upon to play their part by sending their children to school en masse on the first day of school. It is emphasized that the first day of school is essential in the school calendar, and that teachers must be present to welcome students after two months of vacation. School heads have been instructed not to exclude students who have not paid school fees, in order to guarantee access to education for all.

Furthermore, Joseph Diangenda, Chief Provincial Education Inspector of Kinshasa-Funa, stressed the importance of paying school fees in local currency and respecting the health measures in force. Wearing a mask, respecting social distancing and parents’ vigilance in the event of suspicious symptoms are all actions to be taken to prevent the spread of diseases such as Covid-19 within schools.

In short, this meeting highlighted the commitment of all education stakeholders in Kinshasa-Funa to a successful return to school. Education is an essential pillar of a society’s development, and it is by joining forces that heads of establishments, teachers, parents and educational authorities will be able to offer students the best learning conditions.
