Towards a prosperous future: Badagry development initiatives by Whingah and local allies

The hot and dusty streets of Badagry, Nigeria cannot hide the buzz of its current affairs. At a stakeholder and youth engagement event organized by Whingah’s office, discussions centered on finding solutions for a prosperous future in Badagry. Under the theme “Charting a prosperous future for Badagry: Unlocking potential, empowering people and accelerating progress,” the MP took the floor to reassure the community of the measures taken by the government to boost local development.

In a bid to boost the local economy, Whingah spoke of policies aimed at boosting internal revenue. He also addressed the issue of electrification of some parts of the communities in Badagry, saying that assistance would be provided by the rural electrification personnel in the coming days.

However, a major obstacle to the growth of Badagry remains the presence of numerous checkpoints along the Lagos-Badagry expressway, discouraging both tourists and investors. Whingah advocated for the use of technology to ensure the security of the area, suggesting the use of drones to effectively monitor this strategic axis.

Furthermore, the MP highlighted his achievements in supporting youth employment, with 30 solid jobs secured in federal agencies for the youth in Badagry, as well as the registration of over 70,000 people at the Badagry NIN centre. These initiatives are crucial for the inclusion of the community in the national database and access to the benefits of citizenship.

Whingah’s speech was reinforced by Prof. Henry Hunjo of the Lagos State University, who highlighted the positive impact of the MP’s actions on Badagry and called for more integral development of the area. A panel discussion of professionals also discussed the challenges and opportunities for Badagry, including encouraging a collective approach to problem-solving, reactivating the untapped potential of the region, and increasing the inclusion of women in leadership roles.

In a symbolic gesture, Whingah recognized individuals for their outstanding contributions to Badagry, highlighting the importance of mobilizing the community in a dynamic of collective progress. These actions underscore the MP’s commitment to the sustainable development of Badagry and his desire to improve the lives of the people of the region.
