In a society where social pressure to parent is ever-present, the choice to not have children remains a delicate subject to discuss. In a recent interview on the Club Shay Shay show, John Cena, at the age of 47, spoke about his decision, shared with his wife, not to have children.
The famous wrestler, known for his frankness, explained: “I don’t want children. I’m 47 years old and I don’t have any. Everybody asks me if I want them and I have to tell you that’s not the easiest thing to say because a big part of what we’re here for is to reproduce.”
Despite society’s expectations and the natural inclination to reproduce, Cena chose a different path. He spoke about his own nature and stressed that it did not fit the demands of parenthood.
“I have a certain curiosity about life and I also know the commitment that it requires. My biggest fear is, as a driven, sometimes stubborn and selfish person, I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity but I don’t think I’m personally ready or able to invest the time that it takes to be a great parent,” Cena explained.
He added, “I want to live life to the fullest and I have a lot more to do, and I want to do it with a wonderful partner. We’ve had open conversations about it and we share the same values.”
The professional wrestler acknowledged the challenges of discussing this personal choice while emphasizing his intention to pursue his passions rather than have children.
“It’s a difficult topic to talk about because it immediately pigeonholes you and we can’t help but judge, that’s human nature. I’d like to think I operate under the assumption that everyone lives their own life and I can say that I’ve thought about this a lot since I was 15 and 16,” he said.
He also noted that he and his wife had already agreed on the idea of not having children, long before they got married. This thoughtful decision, aligned with their shared values, shows a deep mutual understanding and respect for each other’s life choices.
Ultimately, the choice to not have children is an important personal decision and John Cena, through his sincerity and candor, has opened up a discussion on an often taboo subject. His courageous stance deserves further reflection on society’s expectations and individual life choices.
