On Monday, August 28, an important ministerial meeting was held to address the crucial issue of the supply of petroleum products in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Led by the Ministers of Finance, Hydrocarbons and Portfolio, this meeting was an opportunity to discuss measures to ensure a stable supply of these essential products, while seeking to control prices in order to ensure equitable access to the entire Congolese population.
Government solidarity was highlighted during this exchange, which saw the participation of SONAHYDROC and COBIL officials, as well as experts from the sector. Within the framework of the directives established by Her Excellency Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka, the ministers stressed the urgency of providing increased support to state-owned companies operating in the oil sector, in particular SONAHYDROC and COBIL. There was also talk of strengthening ties with commercial banks to ensure adequate financing and facilitate the improvement of services while controlling prices at the pump.
Recalling the guidelines of the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, the Minister of Finance stressed the need for in-depth reflection to rectify the price structure and combat customs fraud that is rampant, particularly in the southern region of the country. Concrete measures are being considered to put an end to these fraudulent practices and guarantee a quality service offering to the entire population.
In an effort to optimize the activities of national oil companies, the Minister of Portfolio expressed his satisfaction with the progress made at this meeting. He stressed the importance of promoting trade within the State portfolio, in particular by encouraging companies to source petroleum products from SONAHYDROC and COBIL. This decision aims to support these companies and ensure their financial stability, while strengthening market demand.
Finally, the issue of customs fraud was widely discussed during this meeting, with the ministers’ stated desire to take concrete measures to put an end to it. By acting in this way, the government is committed to improving the conditions of the petroleum products market and to offering a quality service to its citizens.

This strong political will makes it possible to consider concrete measures to strengthen the country’s infrastructure and ensure an adequate supply of essential products.
