**Case of cleric violating immigration protocols makes a big splash in Nigeria**
In a context where compliance with immigration laws and protocols is of paramount importance, the recent arrest of a cleric for violating the rules in force has sparked strong reactions in Nigeria. This case, which occurred in Yola, Adamawa State, highlighted the crucial issues related to compliance with the conditions of entry and stay of foreigners on Nigerian territory.
According to information reported by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) Kenneth Udo, the cleric in question was apprehended by Nigerian Immigration officers on August 24 for violating the protocols in force. He is said to have used a tourist visa (F5A) for activities other than those authorized by this type of visa, namely, activities for tourism purposes only.
It was revealed that the cleric arrived in Nigeria on August 21 and took part in the leadership election process of the Methodist Church. An action that was in total violation of the terms and conditions associated with the tourist visa as defined in the Nigeria Visa Policy.
In response to this situation, the Comptroller General of Nigerian Immigration, Kemi Nandap, with ministerial approval, ordered the immediate repatriation of the cleric in question. This decision is intended to reiterate the importance of respecting immigration laws and regulations, while underscoring the commitment of the Nigerian authorities to upholding these rules.
It is worth noting that Nigeria encourages foreign investment and social activities in its territory, recognizing their essential role in the economic growth and development of the country. However, any breach of immigration laws and regulations will not be tolerated by the relevant authorities.
This case highlights the importance of adhering to immigration protocols and underscores the need for all individuals, whether foreign or national, to comply with the laws in force in the country. It also reiterates the commitment of the Nigerian authorities to ensure the safety and security of all those residing in or visiting the country.
