Title: Kinshasa: Towards a major urban transformation for a better living environment
Last Monday, Kinshasa was the scene of crucial discussions between the urban authority and the Director General of the Office of Roads and Drainage (OVD) concerning strategies to clean up and rehabilitate the roads of the Congolese capital. This meeting, whose results seem promising, revealed a strong commitment to improving the quality of life of the city’s inhabitants.
At the heart of these discussions, the issue of cleaning, sanitation and rehabilitation of roads throughout the city was addressed. With a daily production of nearly 15,000 tons of waste, it is imperative to act quickly to address the challenges related to this growing insalubrity. The discussions thus focused on the implementation of effective strategies to clean up the streets and treat waste responsibly.
Governor Daniel Bumba launched Operation “Coup de poing”, an initiative to rid the city of Kinshasa of all forms of garbage. In this perspective, close collaboration is planned between the OVD and the teams deployed by the local authorities. This cooperation is part of a global vision of urban transformation, in line with the objectives of President Tshisekedi.
Road rehabilitation was also at the center of the discussions. It is planned to launch operations aimed at providing Kinshasa with quality road infrastructure, essential to improve traffic flow and guarantee the safety of residents.
Beyond these concrete measures, Kinshasa seems to want to take a real step towards more modern and sustainable urban planning. By promoting sanitation, road rehabilitation and waste treatment, the Congolese capital is embarking on a path of major urban transformation, thus offering its residents a healthier and more pleasant environment to live in.
This approach, a true reflection of the aspirations of a city in full transformation, is the result of close collaboration between local authorities, urban sanitation stakeholders and the population. By joining forces, they are laying the foundations for a better future for Kinshasa, where cleanliness, safety and quality of life will be the watchwords of a city in full renaissance.
