Fatshimetrie, July 29, 2024 – At the heart of Kinshasa’s cultural effervescence, an unprecedented initiative is preparing to celebrate International African Women’s Day in a spirit of recognition and promotion of the essential role of women in Congolese and African society. The Center for the Study of the Rapprochement of Tradition and Modernity (CERTM) has planned a series of major events on July 30 and 31 in Limete, bringing together conferences-debates and art exhibitions, thus highlighting artistic talent and female commitment.
The initiator of this event, Mr. Noël Kilomba, emphasizes the importance of paying tribute to African women who have marked history through their exceptional contribution in various fields, including culture and art. It highlights the key role of women in the struggle for emancipation and development of the continent, highlighting emblematic figures such as Kimpa Vita, Anuarite Nengapeta and Sophie Landy Kanza, who have played a decisive role in the history of Africa.
This celebration takes on a particular significance as the Democratic Republic of Congo sees a woman, in this case Mrs. Judith SUMINWA, occupy the post of Prime Minister, symbolizing a step forward towards gender equality and the recognition of women’s potential in governance.
July 31, a day specifically dedicated to African women, is an opportunity to highlight the unique journey of women on the continent, marked by the historical trials of slavery and colonization. Despite these challenges, African women continue to assert themselves and gradually free themselves, actively participating in the construction of a more just and balanced society.
The program for these two eventful days includes a variety of activities ranging from traditional dance to the exhibition of works of art created by female painters, as well as the moving testimonies of emerging women who make their voices heard and share their experiences.
The Study Center for the Rapprochement of Tradition and Modernity, founded in 2012, embodies the commitment to balance cultural traditions and modernity, ensuring that the essential values of Congolese culture are preserved while promoting progress and innovation.
This celebration of International African Women’s Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to the women who, through their courage, creativity and determination, contribute every day to the evolution and influence of Congolese and African society.
By honoring African women, this cultural and artistic event highlights the richness and diversity of their heritage, inviting everyone to draw inspiration from their example and actively contribute to building a brighter and more inclusive future for all..
This celebration thus highlights the strength and resilience of African women, bearers of immense potential and limitless creativity, ready to take up the challenges of the present and to build together a more harmonious and equitable future for all.
