Reform of the driving behavior of officials in Kinshasa: a strong signal of government responsibility

In Kinshasa, the turbulent capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, traffic violations have taken on an alarming scale among road users. Public transport bus drivers are distinguished by their constant non-compliance with traffic rules, thus causing recurring traffic jams and accidents on the city’s arteries.

This irresponsible conduct has become commonplace, particularly among officials whose processions sometimes travel in the wrong direction, endangering the security of citizens. This unacceptable situation finally attracted the attention of the authorities, particularly during the recent government seminar.

During this meeting, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa reminded members of the government of the importance of being exemplary and scrupulously respecting the laws in force, including the highway code. Clear directives have been issued to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Jacquemain Shabani to ensure strict application of the regulations.

These instructions aim to put an end to disrespectful behavior by officials and establish a culture of respect for the law, even among influential political figures. Indeed, it is essential that government leaders set an example and show that they are not above the laws that govern society.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of moralizing public life and urged the entire government to act with dedication, honesty, integrity and loyalty in the exercise of their duties. It is time, she stressed, to turn our backs on anti-values and place the interest of the people at the center of political concerns.

The government seminar, focused on the theme “Sealing the pact of citizen engagement through the promotion of performance in governance and the effective implementation of reforms”, aims to strengthen cohesion within the government and guarantee harmonious execution of the government program to meet the needs of the Congolese population.

In conclusion, it is imperative that the country’s leaders act with responsibility and exemplarity to bring about real change and promote the development of the nation. Respect for laws and ethical values is fundamental to building a just and prosperous society where the well-being of all takes precedence over personal interests. The Congolese government has a unique opportunity to mark a positive turning point by promoting transparent governance, with integrity and oriented towards the common good.
