Cooperation between Kinshasa and Ankara: promising progress for the Congolese capital

International cooperation is an essential lever for meeting the challenges facing major African cities. It is with this in mind that Governor Daniel Bumba Lubaki received today at Kinshasa City Hall, the Turkish ambassador to the DRC, Murat Ülkü. This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the different avenues of cooperation between Kinshasa and Ankara, mainly focused on sanitation, mobility, transport, infrastructure and other essential issues for the Congolese capital.

Indeed, Kinshasa, with its population of more than 16 million inhabitants, faces major challenges in terms of sanitation, traffic and infrastructure. The Turkish ambassador underlined his country’s commitment to supporting the provincial government of Kinshasa in this dynamic of improving the living conditions of Kinshasa residents. Exchanges between the two parties highlighted opportunities for cooperation, particularly drawing inspiration from the successes encountered by major Turkish cities such as Istanbul and Ankara in resolving similar issues.

More concretely, large-scale projects are currently underway to meet the city’s sanitation challenge. Waste collection is a priority project, discussed on several occasions by the Congolese and Turkish authorities. The Turkish ambassador stressed the importance of unblocking this situation to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Kinshasa, in particular by preventing flooding caused by waste blocking the gutters.

As part of his action program entitled “Kinshasa Ezo Bonga”, Governor Daniel Bumba will soon launch operation “Coup de punch” to rid the Congolese capital of waste and filth. This initiative is part of a global approach aimed at making Kinshasa healthier and more pleasant to live in for its inhabitants.

In conclusion, cooperation between Kinshasa and Ankara is of capital importance for the development and improvement of living conditions in the Congolese capital. The constructive exchanges between local authorities and the Turkish ambassador suggest significant progress in resolving the complex challenges facing Kinshasa.
