Celebration of cultural diversity in Lubumbashi: the U’ Muntu Festival highlights unity and solidarity

Fatshimetrie, July 20, 2024 (FTM).- The long-awaited annual cultural event, the U’ Muntu festival, opened its doors for its 6th edition in Lubumbashi, in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This year, the theme chosen by the initiator of the festival, Denis Sampi, is “Cultural originality and regional integration”, thus highlighting the cultural richness of the region and the importance of integration for a harmonious and prosperous society.

In a passionate speech, Denis Sampi explained that the term “U’ Muntu” has its origins in the humanist philosophy of former South African President Nelson Mandela. “U” symbolizes humanism, while “Muntu” refers to the very essence of man in Bantu culture. The main objective of this event is to celebrate African humanism through stories, dances and proverbs, thus conveying messages of peace, unity and mutual respect.

This edition stands out for the diversity of traditional dances highlighted, ranging from stylized dance to elaborate dance, including authentic dance. These artistic performances aim to promote the cultural richness and diversity of the region, while raising public awareness of the importance of preserving these ancestral traditions.

Beyond the artistic aspect, the U’ Muntu festival is also committed to raising awareness among the population of Lubumbashi to cultivate love, living together and solidarity. Through stories and riddles, the festival’s artists call for unity and collaboration for the development of the community. Denis Sampi insists on the fact that rivalries and internal conflicts often prevent the population from fully benefiting from the riches of their land, thus emphasizing the need to go beyond personal interests and favor the common interest.

In conclusion, the U’ Muntu festival is much more than just a cultural event, it is a call for unity, tolerance and solidarity. By promoting the cultural originality of the region and advocating regional integration, this event helps to strengthen community ties and promote harmonious living together. A true celebration of the diversity and cultural richness of Lubumbashi.
