A devastating tragedy on the Bugarama road: the repercussions of a bus accident between Bukavu and Uvira

A tragic bus accident has rocked the region between Bukavu and Uvira in Rwanda, leaving three people dead and several others injured. The public transport vehicle, which linked the two Congolese cities, violently hit a pole on the Bugarama road.

The testimonies of survivors are heartbreaking, describing a terrible overturn of the bus in Bugarama. A head-injured passenger has shared his experience, describing the horror of the incident which claimed the lives of two children and a Congolese adult.

The travel agency responsible for the trip immediately sent a rescue team to Rwanda to care for the injured, who are currently hospitalized in a local facility. Meanwhile, bereaved families await with unspeakable pain the repatriation of the remains of their loved ones, planned for Bukavu.

The manifesto of the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) revealed that 14 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident, thus highlighting the scale of the tragedy and the need for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this road tragedy.

While the local community is still in shock, this accident is a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the crucial importance of road safety. It is imperative that measures are taken to prevent such tragedies in the future and to ensure the protection of passengers using these essential transport routes.
