The Mai-Ndombe REDD+ project, led by Eve Bazaiba, Deputy Prime Minister of the Environment, is making significant progress in the villages of the Inongo territory, located in the province of Mai-Ndombe. Thanks to the sale of carbon credits, large-scale projects are seeing the light of day, benefiting both the Congolese government and local populations.
At the heart of this initiative, the ERA-Congo organization deploys funds from the sale of carbon credits to finance the construction of essential infrastructure. Schools are being created, providing access to education for village residents, while modern health centers are strengthening the provision of medical care to the population. Access to drinking water is also facilitated through the installation of new water points, thus helping to improve the living conditions of local communities.
Alongside investments in social infrastructure, agropastoral activities are developed to support the economic development of villagers. This not only creates local jobs but also strengthens food security in the region. Thus, the REDD+ Mai-Ndombe project is not limited to the preservation of the environment, but extends to concrete actions aimed at improving the well-being of local populations.
This holistic approach implemented by the project demonstrates the importance of sustainable management of natural resources for the socio-economic development of communities. Indeed, by taking advantage of carbon offset mechanisms, it is possible to generate tangible benefits for local populations while preserving biodiversity and forest ecosystems.
In a context where the fight against climate change and the preservation of biodiversity are crucial issues, the Mai-Ndombe REDD+ project represents an integrated intervention model, combining environmental conservation, social and economic development. It thus embodies a promising vision for a sustainable future where the protection of nature and the well-being of communities go hand in hand.
