Recent news surrounding the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) has been marked by statements by spokesperson Eddy Megwa on the benefits corps members will derive from the new minimum wage. This clarification comes following some media confusion surrounding an alleged increase in the allowance for young workers.
Megwa stressed that despite rumors of a new package, corps members will indeed benefit from the new minimum wage. He expressed dismay over the misinterpretation of facts by some media during the visit of the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, to the Ogun State orientation camp in Sagamu.
For clarification purposes, General Ahmed, during his address to the corps members, pointed out that it is expected that they will benefit from the minimum wage once it is approved, but he did not mention that the President has already approved an increase in their allocation.
As part of his supervisory duties during orientation periods, the Director General advised corps members on topics such as patriotism, entrepreneurship, security awareness, community development, as well as youth development for leadership roles.
These clarifications shed welcome light on this subject and allow corps members and the general public to better understand the implications of the new minimum wage on their situation. It is essential to clear up any confusion and ensure that the information disseminated is accurate and reliable to avoid any form of unnecessary speculation.
