**Urban sanitation and business awareness in Lubumbashi, DRC**
The issue of urban sanitation is a crucial issue for the development of cities, and the city of Lubumbashi, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is no exception. Recently, the Federation of Congolese Enterprises (FEC) of the Lubumbashi section was associated with the municipality to support the city’s sanitation efforts.
During a meeting between the interim mayor, Joyce Tunda Kazadi, and the urban committee of the FEC Lubumbashi, several recommendations were made to local economic operators. They were asked not to support the pirate market in front of their establishments, not to display their goods on public roads, and to pay the household waste tax. These measures aim to encourage the town hall to take more effective actions in terms of sanitation.
Among the concrete measures proposed to economic operators, we find the installation of two trash cans per store, the renewal of the paint in the colors of the city (red-white), the concreting of the space in front of the stores, and the reservation a space for public lighting. These actions, planned as part of awareness raising over a period of ten days, aim to contribute to improving the living environment of the inhabitants of Lubumbashi.
It is essential that local businesses take responsibility for the environment and sanitation. By acting responsibly, they not only help to preserve the cleanliness of the city, but also to promote a positive image of their activity among citizens and local authorities.
In conclusion, the involvement of businesses in urban sanitation actions is a key element for the sustainable development of Lubumbashi. By working together with the municipality, they can play an essential role in promoting a healthy and attractive environment for all.
