Fatshimetrie, July 6, 2024 – In the heart of Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, 25 media actors recently underwent essential training on the fundamental principles of accountability towards populations impacted by the humanitarian crisis. Initiated by renowned experts, this two-day session aimed to strengthen the understanding and commitment of media professionals in responsible humanitarian action.
Under the tutelage of Jean-Philippe Ahoua, specialist in accountability towards affected populations, participants were immersed in interactive exchanges and practical sessions to deepen their knowledge and skills. The primary objective was to guarantee active listening to the voices of affected populations while promoting a responsible and transparent approach in humanitarian actions.
Claudel Lossa, spokeperson of the participants, expressed his gratitude to the organizers for this enriching training opportunity. They are committed to actively supporting humanitarian actions on the ground and combating the spread of rumors within the community by organizing awareness-raising radio broadcasts.
During this intensive session, media professionals were made aware of three key themes: the fundamental principles of accountability towards affected populations, the devastating impact of rumors on humanitarian initiatives, as well as the crucial role of journalists in implementation of accountability towards affected populations.
This training, co-organized by the provincial inter-agency coordination of the prevention system against sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and the working group on accountability towards affected populations (AAP), was part of a sexual abuse prevention project in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu. Funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Humanitarian Food Bureau (BHA), and executed by the Primary Health Care Promotion Program (PPSSP), this workshop marked a decisive step towards more humanitarian action. responsible and inclusive in the region.
