Investing in the Future: The Renewed Hope Legacy Superhighway Project in Nigeria

As part of the development and upgrading of infrastructure in Nigeria, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, recently called for the implementation of the Renewed Hope Legacy Superhighway project. During a meeting with stakeholders and governors of the five states involved, held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, the Minister emphasized the importance of the project to the country’s economy.

The superhighway is more than just a road construction project, it is being touted as an investment that will act as a catalyst to revitalize the Nigerian economy. The Minister identified the Lagos-Ondo-Edo-Delta-Bayelsa-Rivers-Akwa Ibom-Cross Rivers (700km), Sokoto-Kebbi-Niger-Kwara-Oyo-Ogun-Badagry and Cross Rivers-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-Apo as legacy projects of the current administration.

According to him, these projects will bring many benefits, especially to the beneficiary states. He urged stakeholders to support the President of the Republic to successfully complete these projects in the remainder of his term. The Minister also assured that all road infrastructure will be built with reinforced concrete, with a lifespan of up to 50 years before any maintenance.

The projects mentioned will include reinforced concrete highways, with six lanes of traffic, railways and solar-powered street lighting. The longevity and robustness of these new infrastructures are highlighted by the Minister, recalling that the decision to give special priority to the Federal Government projects across the country was taken at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

The governors of the affected states have all expressed appreciation to the President for initiating these long-awaited infrastructure renewal projects. Governor Abdullahi Sule, who chairs the North Central Governors’ Forum, commended the Federal Government for taking these iconic projects that have been pending for decades.

Overall, this Renewed Hope Legacy Infrastructure Project promises to be a key enabler for Nigeria’s development and economic growth, showcasing an ambitious vision for the future of the country’s infrastructure.
