Fatshimetrie, July 2, 2024 – In a context marked by the growing desire to promote gender equality, a round table on the involvement of women in the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo was announced during ministerial meetings in Kinshasa. This initiative aims to enable women, often victims of armed conflicts, to actively participate in building lasting peace in the country.
During these hearings, several women’s organizations expressed their support for this approach, stressing the importance of giving women a voice and a central role in peacemaking processes. Nelly Mbangu, Coordinator of the NGO “the voice of African women”, thus stressed the urgency of including women in discussions and decisions related to peace in the DRC.
At the same time, concrete actions were also announced to strengthen the empowerment of women in the country. The “Grâce à ma mère” Foundation thus provided job kits to two hundred women in Kinshasa, with the aim of supporting them in the development of their economic activities. This initiative is part of a broader approach to promoting female entrepreneurship and the economic empowerment of women.
For its part, the dynamic of women candidates in the DRC praised the efforts of the Minister of Gender in favor of women’s political participation. This recognition demonstrates the importance given to the place of women in the political and social sphere of the country.
At the same time, the Minister of Gender encouraged the child reporters of Kinshasa to promote equal opportunities and defend the rights of children in the DRC. This interaction underlines the importance of raising awareness among younger generations about the issues of gender equality and children’s rights.
In short, these various initiatives and encouragements show a strong desire to promote the inclusion of women and children in building a more just and balanced society in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is by uniting the strengths and talents of all that the country can move forward towards a future of peace and prosperity for all.
