Fatshimétrie, June 27, 2024. A visionary project for the economic emancipation of Congolese women recently saw the light of day, during a meeting between the Minister of Gender, Family and Children of the Democratic Republic of Congo and a delegation from the NGO international “BPW”.
The representative of the NGO, Catherine Bonsa, underlined the importance of fighting against the precariousness of Congolese women by investing in their economic autonomy. This initiative aims to train and set up incubators, particularly for rural women, in order to promote the processing of agricultural products and promote their personal, financial and economic development.
The Minister of Gender, Léonnie Kandolo, pledged to support this innovative project, stressing that massive support from women entrepreneurs would be necessary for its realization. Furthermore, during this meeting, the minister also spoke with members of the Collective of organizations and associations of Congolese living in France. They pleaded for the creation of a mediation space dedicated to the fight against sexual violence against women.
The vice-president of the collective, Laure Yamba, highlighted the importance of raising awareness on the issue of violence against women and underlined the need for such a mediation space to support this essential fight. It should be noted that another important meeting took place the day before, between the Minister of Gender and a delegation from the UN Stabilization Mission in Congo (MONUSCO).
The central subject of the discussions was the effective implementation of gender equality and the women-peace and security agenda. These meetings underline the commitment of the Congolese government and international partners to promote the autonomy of women, fight against gender-based violence and build a more egalitarian and peaceful future for all.
