In the complex world of Nigeria’s oil sector, recent revelations about Mele Kyari, Chairman of the NNPC, have sparked a heated debate. The allegations against him were described as “laughable, comical and extremely unfortunate” by the Chairman of the Nigeria Civil Society Organisations Forum, Comrade Friday Maduka, during a press conference at the NUJ press centre in Utako, Abuja.
Maduka has been a vocal defender of Kyari, denouncing a campaign of misinformation orchestrated by individuals with hidden agendas. He called on Nigerians to remain calm and continue to support the administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending efforts to reform the political landscape.
The Forum’s investigation has concluded that the allegations against Kyari are baseless and financially motivated. President Maduka lauded Kyari’s exemplary achievements at the helm of the NNPC, calling him an “unparalleled pioneer” in progressive and compassionate governance of the oil sector.
He highlighted Kyari’s alignment with the mandate of the current administration and his commitment to upholding government policies and laws governing the oil industry. Despite the challenges posed by the Nigerian system and bureaucratic hurdles in the oil sector, Kyari pursues a progressive vision and strongly supports initiatives aimed at reforming the NNPC and the country’s oil sector.
The Forum’s Secretary General, Akbar Abubakar, also supported Maduka’s statement, describing the allegations against Kyari as a smear campaign. He encouraged Nigerians to reject the baseless allegations and support Kyari’s efforts to reform the country’s oil sector.
Ultimately, it is critical for citizens to distinguish truth from rumours and support initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency and transparency of the Nigerian oil sector, for the benefit of all.
