Fatshimetrie, June 26, 2024 – Following recent developments on embezzlement within the administration of the Tshopo province, a commission of inquiry was strongly recommended by provincial deputies. This decision follows the response of the provincial Minister of Finance during a plenary in Kisangani. Dr Mateus Kanga Londimo, president of the Tshopo Provincial Assembly, stressed the importance of setting up such a commission before any indictment of the minister concerned.
Provincial deputies expressed concern over the massive misappropriation of public funds, stressing the importance of severely punishing those responsible to deter future embezzlement. Mr. Kanga warned that public managers involved in such acts will be brought to justice in order to guarantee the transparency and integrity of the finances of the Tshopo province.
The provincial Minister of Finance, Héritier Bangala, highlighted the challenges he faces in the exercise of his functions, mentioning the existence of a parallel finance administration in the governorate. He also mentioned the case of the PHC company and the diversion of more than a billion Congolese francs to an unauthorized account, highlighting the need to strengthen financial controls within the provincial administration.
Since the beginning of the questioning of Tshopo provincial deputies on the management of public funds, a series of questions have been initiated to clarify the functioning of the different sectors of the province. These actions aim to strengthen the transparency and accountability of public authorities, thus guaranteeing sound and effective management of public finances for the well-being of the population.
In conclusion, it is essential to emphasize the importance of accountability and the fight against corruption within public administration. The establishment of a commission of inquiry constitutes a crucial step in identifying those responsible for embezzlement and ensuring transparent and responsible governance within the province of Tshopo.
